Guidance for a writer

Hi everyone,
I’m a fiction writer working on a series of cozy mystery/paranormal short stories featuring a psychic barista who uses her abilities to help solve crimes (cozy paranormal mystery). I want to make sure that I’m portraying psychic abilities accurately and respectfully in my fiction. I’d love to hear your thoughts or any insights you can share to help me ensure that the portrayal is as realistic as possible.
I have been reading several books on the subject, like “Awakening Your Psychic Ability” by Lisa Campion, “Psychic Abilities” by Marcia L.Pickands and “Psychic Exploration” by E. Douglas Dean, “Psychic Detective Course” by The Abbotts, and a few others. I also studied the treatment in the fiction books (“The Psychic”, Demon in the Mirror") by Florida author Lovelyn Bettison.
Am I doing the right things?

Hello, You didn’t mention what exactly you are writing in the book. What sort of psychic abilities you are writing. If you can detailed these then we may be able to give our inputs.

What abilities does this barista use?

As I gain insight to various paranormal abilities from my research (books), I incorporate them in my stories, much as the main character discovers and explores her abilities in ordinary activities. She experiences telekinesis, animal telepathy, flash visions from objects, an encounter with a ghost, a prophetic dream, precognition, and in one story she becomes a psychic detective working with police to reveal a murder. I am working on a revised version with a different title and more chapters/short stories. The second book will begin with her encounter with a psychic mentor to guide her in developing her abilities while keeping her secret.

Thank you so much for responding to my post.

Ok so above are the psychic abilities. Seems realistic to me. It will co me down to how these experiences are incorporated in your story. If you keep it more real and not make it like a fantasy then it will be more believable. You may also incorporate following elements

  • Crystal Glazing
  • Remote Viewing

I did incorporate remote viewing in one of my stories. The crystal gazing is a good idea!
I don’t think the stories could be considered fantasy. The main character’s experiences are blended with her normal life working at a coffee shop, interacting with customers and co-workers and friends, doing good things with her skills while keeping a low profile. There is one chapter in the current edition that could be viewed in the wrong context and will not appear in the next revision. I can provide access to the ebook for your impressions if you are interested. I might credit you as a “consultant” in the new version.
